R2 : Tough mental battle between Millie and Asia
[7] Millie Tomlinson (ENG) 3-1 Asia Harris (ENG) 11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6 (42m)
Millie is based in Nottingham, training with Chris Ryder.
If those two were having breakfast this morning together, friendship went ouiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiz out of the way from the start of the match. A bit of a “psychological warfare” is going on, as one of the players smiled, commenting. Bless them. I think those two actually know each other well enough to allow themselves to nag at each other a bit more than they would normally do… but what do I know.
Millie didn’t make a single error for the first two games, Asia started in the second one. But overall, I would say the day Asia finds the key to stay focus and being consistent throughout, she might surprise a lot of people and probably even herself…
Millie : Tactically, I’m rather happy I wanted to keep her out of the middle, and hit the ball away from both of us, which is what I did in the points that I won. And sometimes, I didn’t do it, and then it went badly.
That third game [where she started to make errors] is the easiest to lose if you are ahead because you lose concentration easily, you lose patience because you become too relax, and if you are behind, you have nothing to lose and you start going for shots and be more aggressive.
