R1: Saskia breaks the heart of the French crowd…
Saskia Beinhard (GER) bt Elise Romba (FRA) 8-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-8 (42m)
A very good start from the French girl Elise, just back from Paris’ Coupe du Stade like her compatriots Kara and Enora. But Saskia, not minding the fact the crowd was supporting their girl, managed to reassess and close the game in 4.
Saskia : I’m happy I was able to find my focus again in important patches of the match. I would lie if I said I didn’t hear the crowd cheering on Elise but it’s understandable, all good with that, we are very close to France…
I’m happy I could fight through, it was more of a fight than quality from my side. But it’s also part of the game. Happy with my length in certain part of the match, but sometimes a bit too short or too narrow, but happy I managed to get back to my length setting and stay calm. Happy I could fight today and win the match..
Tomorrow, I’m playing Jessica van der Walt. We haven’t played for about three years I think but we sometimes train together. We are good friends, she is a very clean player on court, I’m sure it will be a very enjoyable match, so I’m looking forward to it.
